Getting your garden in shape for the Spring property market…

Spring has teased us with a brief glimpse then we are heading back to freezing temperatures… but not for long. Surely we are almost there, breaking free from Winter into a glorious Spring with the excitement of longer days, lighter nights and that general all round liberating feeling that Spring has sprung and we are heading into full bloom!

So, are you prepared? Let’s take a look at where to start… This of course depends on what shape your garden is in but here goes:

Blooming Borders - March is all about preparation and tidying… With the crazy weather you need to be patient but roses can be pruned, bulbs can be sewn and prune those winter plants.

The most dreaded task of all is weeding, but it is one that really needs to be tackled before the weeds have a chance to flower and go to seed. Most weeds can simply be pulled or cultivated out of the garden while they are young.

Tidying and repairing the surrounding areas is also important as it gives a finished feel to the garden and is another step in preparing your house for sale that will benefit you. So, fix those rogue bits of fencing and maybe give the shed a paint.

Luscious Lawn - Tempting as it is, the first signs of Spring can inspire you to dive into the garden. If you are tackling this yourself, don’t dive in head first and go easy with the first few cuts of the season, simply trim off the top third of growth with the mower blades adjusted to their highest setting. Then, allow the lawn to recover for a few days and then cut again with the blades on a lower setting. At this time of year the lawn may only need cutting about twice a month.

If you have decided it’s time to bring in the professionals, then now is the time! If you aren’t of the green fingered variety then this is a great option as the right people can get you into shape pretty quickly, in order to prepare your home for sale and help those stunning photos make the most of a well tended garden.

Pristine Patio - Maybe it’s time to look at some simple repairs that will rejuvenate the patio or simply to look at jet washing to bring it back to life.  Often the first glance into the garden, some simple steps here can lead your buyer to see a cared for space which bodes well to the rest of the house.

For a quick fix, the area outside your backdoor, simply plant up a few pots and hanging baskets which will bring instant colour and texture.
